A visit to Kigo prison, where children grow up behind the walls alongside their mothers — and the moment it became clear how many of them there are.

In November 2024 the team visited Kigo prison. When a parent is imprisoned in Uganda and there is no family able to care for the child, the child goes in with them. Not as a punishment, but because there is simply no one else.
What we saw there set the direction for the years that followed: these children need a way out, a safe home and a school — and the people already doing that work need tools, visibility and sponsors.
