Our model

Local leadership, shared technology, one transparent chain

Nofam Uganda is deliberately structured so that ownership lies in Uganda while the technology, standards and reach are shared across the Nofam Network.

Our relationship with Nofam Foundation

Building bridges between continents — ownership lies in Uganda.

Nofam Foundation, based in the Netherlands, develops the shared sponsorship and reporting platform used across the Nofam Network. Nofam Uganda draws on that technology but sets its own direction — our programmes, staff, board and funding decisions are made here, in Uganda.

Our model

The three levels, in depth

Shared technology from the Nofam Foundation, a locally led organization in Kampala, and grassroots partners who know their children by name. Energy that starts in Uganda impacts children worldwide.

Who we are

Built to outgrow its founder

Founded in 2018 by Erik Jager, Nofam Uganda is deliberately built to no longer need its founder: a Ugandan board governs the organization, and Erik serves on it as founder-member — no chairmanship, no veto. Children from the first sponsorship years have gone on to graduate from universities and now serve their communities as leaders, professionals and change-makers.

We walk alongside children, not just to meet their needs today, but to help them build a tomorrow filled with opportunity. Our team is based in Kampala, working inside Reach A Hand Uganda's established local ecosystem.

“It is not about who helps the child, or under which name. It is about the child being helped.” — Erik Jager, founder

A grassroots network

Local initiatives, connected — not isolated

Uganda has many grassroots organizations already running child sponsorship programs, but most lack platforms to amplify their work and connect them to sponsors. Many also struggle with capacity gaps, especially in using modern technologies to manage sponsorships transparently and reach wider audiences.

Nofam Uganda provides these organizations with visibility, credibility and tools to scale their efforts — connecting local initiatives to a trusted platform that links them to sponsors both locally and internationally.

What the network delivers
  • A collaborative platform for sharing resources, expertise and best practices
  • Capacity strengthening in child programming and the Nofam platform
  • Joint, locally led advocacy for child sponsorship
  • More children reached, stronger support systems, a sustainable model
Mission

To empower underprivileged and vulnerable children through education, health, and strong support systems, ensuring they grow into confident, capable, and thriving individuals.
